6. The Maid
Navy SEALs are commonly seen as being cool as a South Pacific island breeze, rather James Bond-ish in flair, and expert international world-class spies. Other colorful and descriptive adjectives include but are not limited to ravishing, audacious, smoldering, or faint-inducingly gorgeous.
You might consider the above a vulgar display of cockiness. Well, let’s not stop there.
The one dominant characteristic not mentioned above is their well-deserved reputation for—and this is really hard for me to say—being absolute sex gods. This point is unimaginably important. You’re not a full Navy SEAL if you are not an indisputable chick magnet. We are prime-grade filet mignon. Women fantasizing about frogmen while their husbands bang away has ruined marriages. Secretly, we bask in the glory of this awesome responsibility and willingly continue to carry this heavy burden.
There is a paramount question to be asked: Where does this come from? From BUD/S pre-training, of course.
Now back to Venezuela.
All the American families living in the community resort of Campo Verde had access to highly recommended English-speaking maids. Of the many benefits that came with their service, one was that I could practice my Spanish.
Rosa was around sixty. She was a great cook and pretty much ran the house for my mom. It was an extraordinary mutually beneficial relationship. Rosa was responsible, loyal, punctual, and most importantly honest.
All the maids in Campo Verde lived outside our community, in a nearby barrio (neighborhood) just outside the city of Ojeda. Like most American families, we were only vaguely aware of our maid’s family. And so, when I came home from school one day, I was startled to be greeted by the most spectacular vision I’d ever seen. Rosa had brought one of her granddaughters with her to work. Named after her grandmother, Rosita was, in a word, drop-dead-in-your-tracks gorgeous (I know, that was six words). Rosita was a dark-skinned, blue-eyed, eighteen-year-old Latina beauty. This quality is actually very typical of Venezuelan women. Venezuela has, per capita, won more Miss Universes than any other country on the planet, and Rosita would easily hold her own in any beauty contest held anywhere. I had never been around anyone as visually intoxicating as Rosita in my short little life as an eighth grader. I became instantly infatuated.
